What is an EXCEL Self Priming Mud Pump, and how does it work?

An EXCEL Self Priming Mud Pump is a heavy-duty, non-clog centrifugal pump engineered to handle dirty water, mud, sewage, and liquids containing suspended solids.
Unlike standard centrifugal pumps, it features an automatic self-priming mechanism that purges air from the suction line during startup without requiring a foot valve. Once primed, it creates a continuous suction lift to draw up heavy slurries and muddy water effortlessly.

Does this pump require a foot valve or manual priming every time?

No. EXCEL Mud Pumps do not require a foot valve. The internal casing is designed to retain a small amount of liquid after stopping. When restarted, the pump automatically evacuates trapped air and creates a strong vacuum up to 8 meters of suction lift.

What particle size can EXCEL Mud Pumps handle without clogging?

Depending on the model and impeller selection, EXCEL Self Priming Mud Pumps can handle solid particles ranging from 24 mm up to 46 mm in diameter without clogging, thanks to their specially designed semi-open non-clog impellers.

What materials of construction (MOC) are available?

We offer standard and customized material combinations based on liquid composition, acidity, and temperature:
  • Pump Volute / Body: Cast Iron (FG-220 / FG-260)
  • Impeller: Cast Iron, Bronze (85/5/5/5), Stainless Steel SS-304 (CF-8), or SS-316 (CF-8M)
  • Shaft & Sleeve: High-tensile EN-8, SS-410, or SS-316
Sealing Options: Graphite Asbestos / PTFE Gland Packing or Silicon-Carbide Mechanical Seal

Can EXCEL Mud Pumps be driven by diesel engines as well as electric motors?

Yes. EXCEL Mud Pumps can be supplied as bare-shaft units or fully coupled sets mounted on a common base frame driven by either a 3-phase electric motor or a diesel engine. Diesel-engine driven units are ideal for remote construction sites, agricultural fields, and emergency dewatering where electricity is unavailable.

What makes maintenance easy on EXCEL Mud Pumps?

Our pumps feature a Back Pull-Out Design. This allows the rotating element (impeller, shaft, bearing housing) to be inspected or replaced without disconnecting the pump casing from the suction and discharge pipelines, significantly reducing downtime and labor costs.

What are the common industry applications for EXCEL Mud Pumps?

EXCEL Self Priming Mud Pumps are widely used across various sectors:
  • Construction & Mining: Dewatering construction pits, basements, and storm water drainage.
  • Municipalities: Sewage transfer, flood relief, and rain water harvesting.
  • Industrial Effluent Treatment: Transferring muddy, dirty, light acidic, or chemical-laden effluent water.
  • Ports, Docks & Marine: Bilge water removal, drain water management, and pit desilting.
  • Steel & Rolling Mills: Scale-removing acid spray and dirty water recycling.
